What is this?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is Eczema:<\/p>\n<p>Rather than a specific condition, eczema is a group of\u00a0 unrelated diseases that have a similar appearance. When it is new eczema, the\u00a0 affected skin appears red and elevated with small blisters (vesicles) containing a clear\u00a0 fluid. When the blisters break, the affected skin will weep and\u00a0 ooze. In older eczema, chronic eczema, the blisters are less prominent and the skin\u00a0 is thickened, elevated, and scaling. Eczema almost always is very itchy.<\/p>\n<p>There are at least 11 different types of\u00a0 skin conditions that produce eczema. In order to develop a rational treatment\u00a0 plan, it is important to distinguish them. This is often not easy.<\/p>\n<p>Almost all patients with eczema complain\u00a0 of itching. Since the appearance of most types of eczema is similar, the\u00a0 distribution of the eruption can be of great help in distinguishing one type\u00a0 from another. For example, stasis dermatitis occurs most often on the lower leg\u00a0 while atopic dermatitis occurs in the front of the elbow and behind the knee.<\/p>\n<p>Mild eczema may respond to compresses\u00a0 composed of tepid water followed by room air evaporation.
